Since January 2005 the Archive Baumeister with the artist's estate is located in the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart (opens new window).
The Baumeister Archiv has been a part of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart (Museum of Art Stuttgart) since 2005 — the archive's holdings contain autographs, photographs, publications from and about Willi Baumeister, as well as film and sound recordings.
The archive preserves Baumeister's written comments, in addition to correspondence with artist-friends, gallerists, and art historians. Also archived are press articles from 1910 to the present, along with personality and exhibition photographs. Documentation on the individual works is continually updated.
The archive was built up by the artist's widow and daughters and is available as a research place for scholars. In cooperation with various art historians, the catalogues raisonné for the paintings, drawings, gouaches, and collages as well as graphic prints were produced.
Extensive retrospective exhibitions as well as smaller presentations with different thematic emphases have been and are supported by the archive in terms of content and loans.
Felicitas Baumeister - as a daughter of the artist familiar with the heritage in the best possible way - is available with her knowledge of the artist's life and works, and continues to prepare expertise in collaboration with the authors of the catalogues raisonné.
