"The art is in the means" - this statement by Adolf Hölzel refers to the different painting techniques he used. His opinion is reflected in Willi Baumeister's statement "I am always very positive about all painting techniques". Both artists worked intensively with different painting techniques. In the exhibition, Baumeister's "comb paintings" are juxtaposed with Hölzel's "tube paintings". In order to achieve new pictorial effects, both artists used unusual painting tools such as combs, tubes and palette knives. The exhibition provides an insight into the process of painting. How the artists used the objects and what effect they achieved can be seen in the works on display. The exhibition is also the first to show original pastel chalks from Adolf Hölzel's collection.
