Archiv Baumeis­ter at the
Kun­st­mu­se­um Stuttgart

The Baumeis­ter Archiv has been a part of the Kun­st­mu­se­um Stuttgart (Muse­um of Art Stuttgart) since 2005 — the archive’s hold­ings con­tain auto­graphs, pho­tographs, pub­li­ca­tions from and about Willi Baumeis­ter, as well as film and sound record­ings.

The archive pre­serves Baumeis­ter’s writ­ten com­ments, in addi­tion to cor­re­spon­dence with artist-friends, gal­lerists, and art his­to­ri­ans. Also archived are press arti­cles from 1910 to the present, along with per­son­al­i­ty and exhi­bi­tion pho­tographs. Doc­u­men­ta­tion on the indi­vid­ual works is con­tin­u­al­ly updat­ed.
The archive was built up by the artist’s wid­ow and daugh­ters and is avail­able as a research place for schol­ars. In coop­er­a­tion with var­i­ous art his­to­ri­ans, the cat­a­logues raison­né for the paint­ings, draw­ings, gouach­es, and col­lages as well as graph­ic prints were pro­duced.
Exten­sive ret­ro­spec­tive exhi­bi­tions as well as small­er pre­sen­ta­tions with dif­fer­ent the­mat­ic emphases have been and are sup­port­ed by the archive in terms of con­tent and loans.
